Carolyn B. Hennesy is a Partner at Sessions, Fishman & Nathan, LLC, where she specializes in family law, representing spouses and parents in contested divorces, child custody, and support matters, as well as community property partitions. She also has extensive experience in contested successions and general litigation.
A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Carolyn has been practicing law since 1997. She earned her undergraduate degree in History from the University of the South at Sewanee, Tennessee, where she was a member of the Order of the Gownsmen. She then obtained her Juris Doctor from Tulane University School of Law, where she was a member of the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic.
Carolyn began her career in various legal roles, gaining broad experience in insurance defense, medical malpractice, real estate, and commercial litigation. In 2010, she founded Hennesy Law, LLC, focusing exclusively on Louisiana family law and related matters. She joined Sessions, Fishman & Nathan in 2021 and was recently named Partner.
Recognized for her excellence in family law, Carolyn has been selected as a “Top Lawyer” by New Orleans Magazine (2023, 2024) and a “Best Lawyer” by Biz New Orleans Magazine (2022). She holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating for ethical standards and legal ability. In 2002, Carolyn published an article in GP Solo Magazine entitled, “Anyone Can Leave a Legacy” encouraging even though of modest means to consider planned charitable giving.
In addition to her legal practice, Carolyn is engaged in community service. She has been an active member of the Junior League of New Orleans, serving in various leadership roles, including Archivist Chair and Board of Directors member. She has also served on the Vestry of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Metairie, Louisiana.
